Required affiliate disclosures
FTC-aligned guidance. Placement matters as much as wording.
General rule
Compensated endorsements must be truthful. Material connections must be disclosed clearly and conspicuously - near the recommendation itself, in the same medium, and understandable without clicking through.
Sample disclosure lines
- "Disclosure: I received a paid activation bounty from [Product] plus a commission on any sales through my link. My opinions are my own."
- "Sponsored: [Product] is a paid Affiliate Drops campaign. I earn a bounty on publication and a commission on paid customers."
- "Affiliate: I earn a commission if you sign up through this link. I also received a bounty for publishing this."
Placement guidance
- Written content: place the disclosure before the first affiliate link, not only at the bottom.
- Video: include the disclosure verbally and on-screen at the point the product is introduced.
- Social: place the disclosure in the visible portion of the post before any "read more" collapse.
- Email: place the disclosure before the affiliate link in the same email.
Not sufficient
Built-in "paid partnership" platform tags alone, hashtags buried in a wall of tags, or a footer link labeled "disclosures" are not sufficient by themselves.
